Find your future with us. Boeing Defense, Space and Security, In-Space Vehicles is seeking a Senior Structure & Payload Design Engineer (Level 5). This position will develop, integrate and document structural and payload system requirements to establish the primary structures system design for satellite product lines including primary structures, deployable structures, platform and payload structures. This position is located at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates. Primary Responsibilities Leads team to develop, maintain and modify structures/payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools (Uni-graphics NX, Creo-parametric, NASTRAN/PATRAN), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T – ASME Y14.5M) standards and/or other design methods, to drive product definition with other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Defines mechanical, structural, environmental design and integration requirements for the S/C and its constituent assemblies and components including both flight and non-flight (GSE) hardware. Defines the spacecraft drawing/model tree and assignment, general arrangement drawing/model, and all Interface Control Dwg/Models including but not limited to Moving Mechanical Assemblies (MMAs). Defines and maintains drawing/modeling requirements, standards and flow-down thereof. Defines the design standards required for design-analysis integrated models. Defines mechanical design trade space and closure criteria. Defines and executes on CCCP (Critical Clearance Control Plan) including definition and verification of CCCL (Critical Clearance Control List activities). Supports and approves of manufacturing and integration plan, Digital Mock-Up (DMU) and Virtual Manufacturing (VM) simulation reviews. Supports and approves of design reviews, test plans and procedures, critical planning procedures. This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active) Typical Education and Experience: Education and experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience): Experience working with CAD design tools. Experience working with UG Nx CAD system. Experience with drawing release systems (e.g. Teamcenter, ECC). Experience in leading multidisciplinary team through PDR, CDR and System Acceptance Reviews. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience): Experience in leading design teams for configuration layouts and detailed designs. Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, and Civil are preferred. Experience with Space based systems. Experience performing design and basic stress analysis using manual hand calculations. Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams. Experience with design and analysis of high modulus composites is desired. Experience as a Design engineering lead. Experience managing/leading engineering projects. Experience mentoring junior engineers.
